Risk Management for Sovereign Debt Financing with Sustainability Conditions

2019

We develop a model of debt sustainability analysis with optimal financing decisions in the presence of macroeconomic, financial and fiscal uncertainty. We define a coherent measure of refinancing risk, and trade off the risks of debt stock and flow dynamics, subject to debt sustainability constraints and endogenous risk and term premia. We optimize both static and dynamic financing strategies, compare them with several simple rules and consol financing to demonstrate economically significant effects of optimal financing, and show that the stock-flow tradeoff can be critical for sustainability. We quantify the minimum refinancing risk and the maximum rate of debt reduction that a sovereign c…

Research and Development Expenditures and Economic Growth in the EU: A Panel Data Analysis

2016

Abstract The main aim of the paper is to investigate the empirical relationship between research and development (R&D) expenditures and economic growth in the European Union member states in the period of 2000–2013. The empirical analysis is based on panel data regressions. The estimated model is the production function type standard growth model extended with R&D stock variable. The results show a statistically significant impact of R&D expenditures on the economic growth in the EU countries. The significance for R&D coefficient remains robust to different sub-periods, but the level of significance decreases as a sub-sample of new EU countries was considered.

Modelling strategies for the reduction of fat dormice in northern Italian hazel groves

2018

The production of hazelnuts represents an important resource for several Italian rural areas. Sicily and Piedmont, two of the most important producers of hazelnuts, are affected by the presence of the dormouse (Glis glis), that has considerably severely harmed the production of hazelnuts. This study aims to analyse the issue in the Province of Cuneo in Piedmont and to evaluate the sustainability of the policies implemented by using the system dynamics (SD) methodology. An SD predator-prey microworld was built to reproduce the main relevant cause and effect relationships between the development of the dormouse population and local hazelnut production. The results of the SD microworld simulat…

Lack of Good Governance or hazard of consumers e-Health? Evidence through a dynamic outcome based-performance in the Italian healthcare sector about …

This research aims to analyse the management of the health policies to contain the measles outbreaks in Italy. In particular, this study wants to find out what are the key factors that led to the measles outbreak of 2017 and its previous cyclical trend, analysing the impact of ehealth strategy in the management of the epidemics. Understanding the complexity of this issue will help to evaluate the actual policies of the Italian Ministry of Healthcare and to steer the policy-makers to frame sustainable policies to manage the risk of a measles outbreak. The thesis is structured in four chapters. The first chapter, through a literature review, discusses the evolution of the management of epidem…
